@ksleishman There was the strong element of religious motivation for the erection of the said monument.
I presume you are a christian (who are you trying to kid? We both know why you're really defending this): how would you like it if a muslim erected an large marble sign declaring, "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his only Prophet, and May the Fallen be Blessed" on federal land to honor the fallen soldiers?
-
@VonJohannstein the monument isnt religious, people dont go to it to worship it. I've been to it, I know what it takes to get to it, and I know why it was put there. It was built by Marines, for Marines, to pay respect to Marines. The only gods being worshiped by anyone are the fallen Marines they make the hard climb to pay their respects too.

There is a difference between having a religious symbol on your tombstone and imposing religious oriented monuments glorifying one religion using federal land.

i just went up their and the cross is amazing and its a mission especailly the last hill

@VonJohannstein look around the US and see how much religion influences the state...and how many religious ideologies are on government/federal symbols....please by all means take "In God we Trust" off the dollar bill...last time i checked there are crosses on the graves at our national cemeteries honoring those who have fallen, should we remove every single one of those since its federally owned land?

God bless all of our military men and women.

This is wrong, and unconstitutional. To use a christian symbol to honor veterans is a slap in the face to non-Christians and irreligious veterans.
I'm Canadian, but please Americans respect your own constitution which clearly dictates secularism; separation of church and state. Feel free to place a christian orientated monument on private land, but not on public land.

Were all those fallen Marines Xstians? Probably not.
Ugh, a religious sign on a governmentally owned place, violates the constitution don't ya think?

This cross is a GREAT tribute to how much we patriotic Americans LOVE to dishonor, disrespect and exclude any veterans who are NOT Christian.
This cross sends the great message that all of those non-Christian veterans who have served the United States can just go to hell... literally.
Let's all rally around the idea of disrespecting any U.S. veterans who are not Christians!
Hoorah!
