John Francis performs "Georgia On My Mind" on November 26, 2011 on solo guitar. The song was composed by Hoagy Carmichael in 1930, with lyrics added by Stuart Gorell. It has become most closely associated with the 1960 recording by Ray Charles, but it has been covered by numerous artists and became Georgia state's official song in 1979.
Gorrell may have written the lyrics for Hoagy's sister, Georgia Carmichael; However, the lyrics of the song are ambiguous enough to refer either to the state or to a woman named "Georgia".
"This performance is dedicated to my father, Benjamin B. Francis, who turned 80 years old on November 4, 2011. He and my sisters Linda and Susan currently reside in the state of Georgia." -John Francis
Based on an arrangement by Yves Kéroas.
