21 July 1913 - There's a riot when a disguised Mrs Pankhurst is smuggled into a suffragette event at the Pavillion Theatre in London and the police recognise her. From the superb 1974 BBC drama series Shoulder To Shoulder.

Read a report about this event from the New York Times in 1913:

  • @MrJimmyjam24 Oh no that's right. That's why so many women today run successful businesses, become CEOs of large companies and some have even run countries...must be because of their poor decision making that they landed themselves those statuses. Hmm?

  • I wish that PBS would re-run this.

  • the BBC should be ashamed of not releasing this great programme. But then the BBC should be ashamed of their too often shabby DVD releases and customer relations in general...

  • @MrJimmyjam24 take ur a bloke for instance wat if u were a judge and had just zip ur peinns up u would b able 2 make a desion 2

  • @MrJimmyjam24 Beyond idiotic. It's not "for no reason", it is part of a well understood physiological activity.

Men have emotions too, you know.

...No, fuck you, you're a scumbag.

I've decided the low lives like you warrant no explanation.

    So so so fucking stupid.

  • @eedobee Yeah but there is a reason for that... Women are great and all but we can't have them making decisions. Once a month for about a week they are completely irrational and bitchy for no reason. For instance imagine a court room with a female judge on her period. She should not be able to make any decisions in that state without being bitchy.

  • It is forgotten that many men did not have the vote in the UK either. Some facts:-

Reform Act 1832:- Resulted in 15% males having the vote.

Representation of the People Act 1884:- Increased suffrage but still 40% of males were could not vote

Representation of the People Act 1918:- Voted for males over 21, females over 30.

Representation of the People Act 1928 - Votes for all over 21.

In photos the policemen arresting the suffragettes did not have the vote either.

  • As a man, I wouldn't blame women for forever despising us. We kept them down for EVER.

  • Why oh why did the women's movement which had produced some of Britain's finest daughters allow themselves to be corrupted by the likes of Germain Greer and her feminist accolytes who have since admitted that most of the things they advocated were wrong.

Equality must come from mutual respect and that respect must come from women and men who care enough for each other to stand up and say that something is wrong here regardeless of gender. Feminism is as bad as mysogeny.

  • gracias por la información... vi la serie en televisión hace algunos años y siempre me gustó el himno de las sufragistas...
