@thetoynbeeconvector So was Glenn Gould an amateur? He was known for his eccentric swaying and conducting, but he was possibly the least amateur pianist of the 20th century.

@thetoynbeeconvector Wait... An amateur?...
Have you seen this guy on Sky Arts? Guy sways while playing at 500 billion bpm.

I agree with the comments that bach probably needs more subtly and articulation than in this video, but hes just mucking around, and playing from memory, its not a gig! Also I think the maturity he conveys in Chopin works is tremendious, and beats any prodigy who has been playing them since 12 with not emotional attachment as they cannot understand what turmoil Chopin was going through!

@thetoynbeeconvector so-so

And his Beethoven opus 90 is good.

The swaying suggests an amateur. But he's a musical person, so enjoy him. That should be enough.

Surely you should think this man a breath of fresh air in classical!? Surely it is a big enough genre and movement to comprehend different personalities, not always the child prodigy 'rod up their arse' upper class musicians! I think its great that someone who only learnt the Piano for a small amount of time can make a career as a concert pianist as its not about how much Mummy and Daddy pay for their childs lessons since the age of 4!
