this movie was intended for a member at the chiff and fipple flute forums. i make references to irish music, as it is intended for someone who wants to learn to play irish music--i reference the tin whistle fingerings as well. please note for classical the default F# is on ring finger, not middle finger.

in part 1, i show how to put the flute together and where your fingers go.

i play a dave copley wooden headjoint.

p.s. my tone is a little shakey cuz i havent played the flute much in the last couple years

  • @ariellebuium: you are correct in that it does affect tuning. also, using middle F# instead of using ring finger (or a trill key F# if you have it) also affects fine tuning. however, this was a response to someone asking about playing irish music on the silver flute.

just as a fiddler plays differently than a classical violinist, an irish flute player has different conventions and technique. in classical i use pinky key, in irish i do as described in vid, as well as ALWAYS using middle F#.

  • Just an added comment, you say you do not need to you the pinky key, I have been playing flute for 7 years now and you do need to use the pinky key, it affects the fine tuning.
