Could you do this using the HTC Inspire running 2.2.1 Froyo I tried to do the same thing and it said that I need to call ATT (611) or go online to this certain webpage! I thought it was free and I didnt have to pay for it!
@johnndreu Carriers make custom versions of Android. They can disable it if they want. You could root your device and install vanilla Android if you want.
Hey I just got the samsung indulge for metro pcs with android 2.2. I tried to find the tethering and hotspot option in the settings and its not there. How can i make my phone a hotspot?
@eternallimi7 are you talking about the myTouch 3G? cause my bro has one and it doesn't do it, even with the 2.2 upgrade. Can the myTouch 3G Slide do it?
I have the HTC H2 with Android 2.2 installed. How come my portable wifi option gives me an error code. Won't let me click into it. Do u have any advice for me?
No tethering options on my new G2 from T-mobile. Looks like they have it disabled. :( What a bunch of crap. On their site it says it's possible with the G2. What a lie.
does it cost extra, for tethering and mobile hotspot? I know it will use your bandwidth, but is it an extra feature? How are the data plans on this? For unlimited etc. And can that unlimited bandwidth be used with tethering/hotspot? Who carries this product?
I can't see form the video but is the wifi network os type adhoc or infrastructure? AP's are always in infrastructure mode. adhoc networks are in general not to great.
I have been wanting to see how fast tethering was for a while. Thanks for bringing us a hands on look at what it is like. Awesome video and great idea to cover...Thanks
yeah and that's the biggest misconception, for Verizon it's $20/month. F that.

I've heard they want to charge extra for tethering... how would they know that you're tethering vs. connecting directly on your phone?
