Could you do this using the HTC Inspire running 2.2.1 Froyo I tried to do the same thing and it said that I need to call ATT (611) or go online to this certain webpage! I thought it was free and I didnt have to pay for it!

@johnndreu Carriers make custom versions of Android. They can disable it if they want. You could root your device and install vanilla Android if you want.

I have the HTC H2 with Android 2.2 installed. How come my portable wifi option gives me an error code. Won't let me click into it. Do u have any advice for me?

No tethering options on my new G2 from T-mobile. Looks like they have it disabled. :( What a bunch of crap. On their site it says it's possible with the G2. What a lie.

I can't see form the video but is the wifi network os type adhoc or infrastructure? AP's are always in infrastructure mode. adhoc networks are in general not to great.

I've heard they want to charge extra for tethering... how would they know that you're tethering vs. connecting directly on your phone?
