I've started to play the piano in mid February of 2011, and having fun playing it so far. This video was recorded in the evening of the 254th day of my friendship with this fun instrument.

The performance here includes work in progress parts from "Chopin nocturne no 20" (which is the reason I started to play the piano ), "Chopin nocturne op 9 no 1" and "Chopin waltz op 64 no 2". The remaining %70 are improvisations and musical ideas by partially using their base left hand chords.

I am a self learner and I haven't taken any lessons, however not being accustomed to using the note system fluently was a problem when one desires to play Chopin. A software called "midi illustrator" is a great help there. You basically load the notes to the software and it shows you the positions of each note on the keyboard and doesn't move to the next note until you get it right, of course this is an upside of having a midi keyboard, otherwise the software wouldn't know which key you pushed with an acoustic piano.

My companion who watched over me while playing and aided me with a single strategically placed note during the recording is named Kadife, I also call her Kuzu, an 11 years old Siamese lady.

The keyboard is an M-Audio Oxygen 88 usb midi keyboard with a real piano key system including hammers and everything and the Vst sound bank is the software called Pianissimo. The camera is a Canon Eos 5d Mark II. The software I used for editing is premiere and after effects.

  • Awesome for under a year of playing and rock solid performance concentration. What is your practice schedule like?

  • great achievement :)

  • @leefuji it is the "Nocturne in C-sharp minor, Op. posth." or simply "nocturne no. 20"

  • @Korazen which piece is the one that starts at 10:32 ?

  • @Korazen Ok I understand. Anyway, I've made my mind for a studiologic keyboad. I just had a month or so trying to decide which master keyboard to choose and I saw on the net that these ones are very good talking about the touch feel. Hope it does not disappoint me. Thanks for your sharing however!

  • @hecmonter I can't really help you about the comparison of oxygen-88 and vmk188+ since I don't have the vmk188+ nor tried it. However I can share my experience on oxygen-88 for you to have an idea about it.
