The University of Rhode Islands Helen Mederer, Professor of Sociology and Anthropology and Carolyn Sovet, Director of the Womens Center recently recently discussed the impact of the Elsevier Foundation grant they received in 2007 to create a model lactation program. Their Transitional Support program has enabled women scholars in the science, technical, medical and engineering fields to meet their parental obligations while on the job. It won the 2009 Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Award from the Rhode Island Department of Health. http://www.elsevierfoundation.org
