Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I have the same problem and cannot figure it out. It's not the copy settings.

Problem has to do with the scanner doesn't know where the far left limit is. Set your copy settings to letter size and not "actual".

Yes, since it was covered under an extended warrantee, I had the entire unit (L7680) replaced. Have not had a problem since. I scan on a daily basis, so it is used quite often.
