This was done in garry's mod in Lua as an experiment. It needs a little tuning but it works fairly well for the hackjob it is.

Not releasing this for obvious reasons.

  • Almost all games have something like this for their AI, even for ballistic projectiles. This includes soldier and demoman bots. The real challenge is predicting the targets motion. Sadly, a victim of P = NP concerning mere equations! Humans can account for map layout, or the behavior of the opponent to make decisions. Computers often can't. Aimbots for slow/ballistic projectiles will never outperform competent players in practice.

  • @SeersEnlightenment It's definitely possible considering what we can do with AI today. It's a matter of expending enough effort to do it.

I don't see why you're comparing the P vs NP problem to this. Every projectile fired is always a guess and if a target had instant reaction time, they would always be able to avoid it.

  • @ExileLord "Expending enough effort" can mean hundreds of years, and it's why there isn't yet an AI that can outperform competition players. An opponent behaving ideally isn't very interesting - you can always hit them if they're close enough and you aim at a single point. Hitting a target that behaves predictably but with one of potentially millions of equations of motion is something else entirely. This only requires a few inputs on their side (hence the vague comparison).

  • @SeersEnlightenment The reason there isn't an AI like that is because there's no reason to develop one. It would be seen by everyone as a cheater AI and it would be too much effort for the people who commonly develop hacks.

Using statistical techniques, it's possible to map common techniques and strategies players take both statically (like in CS:S) and dynamically.

Again though, this would be making a cheater bot, so no dev would put this much time into it.
