Notaz has added DSS2 features to latest kernel so I'm trying it out. There are still some issues with the setup and there is some slow down displaying simultaneously to LCD and S-Video output. This is just the first crack at it and the code can only be improved from here.

I can't seem to find the versions of software that run on the external controls (USB gamepad) by default so I couldn't get the games playing. Also, this code is not in the GIT yet so it isn't in the Angstrom package and not too much can be demoed.

  • can't wait to have a pandora in my hands

  • Wow.

That's sweet. Congratulations, it is officially now the future.

Goes to show what's possible when the marketing guys, lawyers and megalomaniac fossil CEOs aren't riding the designers like seaside donkeys.

  • @videogameobsession Can you let me know the name of the comparable SoC that outputs HDMI?

I am sure that it will be considered if there is ever a successor planned for the Pandora.

I know it is possible to output the HDMI, just isn't feasible as the design phase is complete on this device.

It is likely still possible for an end user to place an HDMI encoder and a switch in the LCD ribbon cable of the Pandora. The cost and complexity involved are prohibitive, so end users shouldn't expect it

  • @r3di2watch Now it is possible though. There are devices the size of mp3 players that output through mini HDMI. Hopefully this is something they will consider for Pandora 2.0 or something!

  • @BigBearYT

That's a Pandora. Google "open pandora"

  • Is that a mini computer or what?

i googled but i couldnt find anything..

    greets

  • Will a, say, 640x480, i.e. 4:3, image from the pandora (where there would be borders) be feasible to display on a 4:3 tv fullscreen? If so, would it depend on the sw side of things?

  • When are we going to see New Attempt #2?

  • Thats like suing Microsoft because windows can run emulators.

  • True.

People who want something bulkier and more expensive with HDMI should probably look at a different device.

  • I am on your side, facts remain that the several vocal people want HDMI, but it isn't feasible as an addon because there is only one high definition video interface, so at minimum you would need a chip to switch the video between an external encoder and the internal screen.

I am fairly certain that an HDMI chip onboard would make the most sense, but for a portable barely larger than a DS it isn't really a good idea, or even possible.

If you want an external dock, why not just a BeagleBoard?
