Dear Ken Bob

Here is the synchronized video of you running in the lab along with the force traces. As you can see, you have a very elegant, perfect forefoot strike -- your foot almost looks like a plane coming in for a landing -- and of course no discernible impact transient. But, you already knew that!

All the very best

Dan (Dr. Daniel Lieberman - Harvard Skeletal Biology Lab)

PPS You'll be happy to know that we have a large number of Harvard students now barefootin' along the Charles.

  • There is no "Strike"... It's a gentle landing, or touch-down.

  • Wow, that's great BKB! Thanks for posting this. I'm halfway into your book and really enjoying it. I'm amazed how subtle your forefoot strike is, I can see how without the slow-motion that it would look like a midfoot strike. Some of the pictures of forefoot striking "Kenyan Youth" (that appear in other sources) appear as a more pronounced drop but its helpful to know that one can eliminate the impact transient without that extreme a foot drop. Still much to learn but this helps, thanks!
