The Matilda II was at the forefront and the deciding factor behind O'Connors wins agains the Italians. After the Maletti group was defeated there was nothing that could stop it, and it was instrumental in piercing the defenses at Bardia and Tobruk. It deserves a spot in British military history.

@NitroNein it was supposedly supposed to blend in the desert. the paint was supposed to match that of a mirage somehow

The Matilda was the only tank to trully impress the Germans during the blitzkrieg at the start of ww2. At that time they did not have an answer to it. Only superior numbers. Within less then a year though, it was sadly obsolete, though it still remained one of the best, if not the best, infantry support tanks of ww 2 during the north Africa campaign.

I wonder what the blue grey camo is for?
-
@karthikbans But at least the troops might have stood a half decent chance of keeping up with it.

Good for its day but UK should have immediately spotted the 88 weekness and firstly upped the engine (we had Merlins etc on planes so why not?) then it could have stood more armour and finally a decent gun like the 17 pounder. Instead we produced a load of different designs (why?) which in the main were rubbish for the people that had to use them.
