  • ur lucky to have seen a moose in algonquin ...

i'm gonna do a canoe trip soon in algonquin park.... is it easy and comon to see mooses ?

  • Depends on when and where you go - in July August we always see moose, especially on the Nippising, Madawasca Crow or Petawawa river, anywhere there are big marshy areas. This moose was a surprise because it was on a beach, no where near a marsh. Have a great trip!

  • What exactly did you do to provoke it to come at you? and where did you go after it charged?

  • Sorry, and to add, after he charged, which was thankfully a bluff charge, he turned and ran off in the other direction (through the campsite) and we didn't see him after that. Answered other question below, thanks :)

  • LOL, i love the ending!!!

  • lmfao hopefully you guys didnt get hit by his rack, that just made a moose visit even worse since its a bull lmfao XD

  • haha I think he is too. god i miss algonquin!

  • wow that would have been intense

  • I grew up in the north end of Muskoka (very close to Algonquin Park) and you should be more careful around moose. They aren't very friendly at all. I'd rather encounter a bear than a bull moose.

  • moose plural is still MOOSE not MOOSES! (just sayin), and I live near Algonquin park, you're more apt to see a moose later in the fall, Late september, october, when the bulls are in the rut and looking for a cow to mate. Also, the calves are old enough to be out and about.

It is common to see moose on the side of the highway, but it is advised that you DONT get out of your vehicle and get close to the moose because they're very unpredictable and dangerous animals!

  • @hastalavista yeah, when i went (july of last year) i saw about 6 or 7 mooses.

of course, the males are rarer because they shy away from humans.

we got pretty darn close to a female who was eating reeds in the lake. we were maybe four meters away! pretty amazing

  • Wow, beautiful. You have to be careful with them. No matter where you hide, they will tear through anything if they feel threatened! Graceful beasts, but we must respect their space.

  • they are very impressive....I met one at the end of a portage, it crossed the river with so much ease....and when I heard how it brakes the bushes on my side of the river I didn't know what to grab first and run. I threw everything in the canoe and bye byee.....:)

  • Isn't he funny! A very good-looking bull!
