This wild emu daddy was settling back onto his nest of 6 eggs on the ground. Emu fathers incubate the eggs, and their gentle approach to their precious eggs is endearing to watch. See how carefully he checks each egg, and how he waddles up to the eggs on his ankles. Then he rearranges them with his beak, and picks up leaves and sticks to make a tidy nest. Watching this is often one of the great delights of the Savannah Walkabout in late winter and early spring in Melbourne - August & September. It's also a great time for birds - don't they sound wonderful in the background?
