This is a video that describes what it was like getting an esophageal manometry. This will give you a better idea of what to expect. It's really not as bad as you may think. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at chittysmashboom@yahoo.com

Also, Please visit my awareness myspace for my condition Dysfunction of the Belch Reflex. The reason I had the esophageal manometry done was to research my condition because it is rare, and there is no cure or medication available for the people who suffer from it.
The awareness myspace page I set up for it is www.myspace.com/gurglez

Thank you for watching my video and I hope it helps to better prepare you for your esophageal manometry! :)

  • At any rate, I'll do whatever I need to do (I suppose), but I want to start with the upper GI. There's some other stuff going on that may be related, but to be perfectly honest, I don't want to post the details out here on the Internet. I guess there isn't a way to privately send you my email address, but you've been so kind. Thanks again.

  • @danajowho You can message me on here privately if you want to talk about anything, or you can e-mail me at chittysmashboom@yahoo.com :)

I'm glad you are doing things to help yourself stay healthy :)

  • I'm supposed to have this test in less than two weeks, but I'm really terrified (understatement). I may simply refuse. I'm up now in the middle of the night (have to work in the morning) because of my intense anxiety. I'm also having a 2nd upper GI. I'm afraid my doctor will be angry if I don't get this test, but I'm really, really distressed about the prospect of being 'tortured' this way. Welcome comments. Thanks.

  • @danajowho I got very anxious too thinking about what this test would be like, and that is why I made this video after the test. I made the video so people like you would be able to see it and feel a little more comfort in knowing what to expect. The test is no walk in the park, but there are worse things. It really isn't as bad as it sounds, and yeah you gag a lot especially if you're nervous so try to stay calm, but other than gagging it isn't so bad.

  • Getting the tube in wasn't even that bad, and once it's in just keep your head still and you won't gag so much. When they pull it out was uncomfortable, it makes you feel like you have to sneeze a lot after. Just use the tips in the video and you will be fine. If you don't have the test, and you have a medical problem that goes undiagnosed, there could be much more severe consequences by not having the test done.

  • @danajowho My life is so much easier after this test because now I know for sure what I have, and I've found my own ways to help my condition. Please, take the test, because gastrointestinal problems can get so bad when undiagnosed and not researched. If you want to talk, message me and I'll help you through it. The nerves and anxiety are a part of it, but you'll be happy when it's over. :)

  • They tried it on me... wasnt having any of it.

  • Thanks so much gurglez. I hate to tell you, but I did cancel the test today ... didn't sleep a wink last night. I just know I can't take it (not right now). However, I am having a (repeat) upper GI on Tuesday, and the doctor changed my medication, which may help. Also, I'm not eating after dinner and all that good stuff that I never did before. Three years ago I had quite a bit of damage on the Upper GI, so I'll see how the repeat goes. Again, I thank you soooooo much.

  • I had this done 16days ago and my nose and throat have not felt the same since ..its a awful test I at least hope that my doc was able to get what ever info he needed from it because I hope to never have it done again ...
