12 June 2008 West Brisbane Greens branch hosted a community forum to discuss alternatives to the Qld Department of Main Roads proposal for a bypass through Kenmore. Speakers included Save Our Kenmore spokesperson Grant Muller, West Brisbane Greens spokesperson Dr Anne Gardiner, Ronan Lee MP (ALP Indooroopilly), Margaret Gross and Dr Philip Machanick, pro-environment author. More information: http://www.saveourkenmore.com; http://www.greenupbrisbane.net

The main conclusion: Main Roads has not considered alternatives especially those that reduce car use (failing to consider greenhouse gas emissions, peak oil)

  • Well done Greens. Why can't we have public transport that is reliable and available in western Brisbane????? When petrol reaches $2 per litre I am sure people will be YELLING at our politicians that they want it and they won't be seen as hairy radicals hopefully. SAVE OUR SUBURBS Fig Tree Pocket to Karalee and give us alternative transport and a bridge at Bellbowrie/Moggill!

  • Thank you

  • Great, vid. Seems that talking to the community was too prickly for the pineapple party.

  • Hey, did you see the Minister for Main Roads saying how great it is they have improved travel times by 13% by synchronises the lights system with BCC on Moggill Road. Wow, if they did all the other things the public meeting wanted they wouldn't need the Kenmore Bypass and could pocket the $500 million for something valid and sensible. Bring on fixing the Kenmore Roundabout!!!

  • Meanwhile Labor is trying to throw all the blame for massive rates increases to the Libs. But they voted for the tunnels which are the primary cause of the budget blow-out.

Why is it that crazy roads projects always have powerful friends, while sane alternatives like light rail, safe bike paths and efficient buses & trains are always too hard, too expensive, etc.?

  • I agree...where is the local member?!

  • Where was Bruce Flegg? Isn't he the state member for this area? Why were only Greens and ALP represented at the meeting?
