@sweetcowgirlbabe Yes, but you're still not supposed to grab the cantle (back) of the saddle when you get on, as you did here. You can take their vertebrae out of line very easily.

Mounting a very green horse on a loose rein is a quick way to end up flat on your back... But I honestly see nothing wrong here. This is a very green horse, so it needs to be done how it can be done SAFELY, prior to worrying about proper mounting technique.

Side note however - my leg is doing all the lifting of my body weight - the hand on her neck, and on the back of the saddle are only there for balance. Saddle shifts slightly because I don't like to suffocate my horses by doing the girth up too tightly.

Did you know that with an english saddle that if you grab the cantle while getting on, it torques your horses back? It's recommended to grab reins (loose) and mane with the left and the pommel with the right and swing up quickly and gracefully. The more time it takes, the worse it is for the horse's back :S Found that out from our chiro! How old is Echo?
