Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching. Chapter 80 in English.
Make them settle in their dwellings. (Ch.80-9)
[Note]
You are Tao itself. So, you don't have to return to Tao. Or rather, you cannot return because you are already one with Tao. The word "go back / return 復 [fuku]" in Tao Te Ching 道徳経 suggests recycling Tao's energy. Remember that true You are Tao. It is one way to do it.
In his «Shobogenzo 正法眼蔵», Zen Master Dogen 道元禅師 repeatedly denies the concept of Gedo Senni 外道先尼. 外道 [gedo] literally means Out 外 [ge] / Tao 道 [do]. It is sometimes translated as non-Buddhist. Some call him Heresy Seniya. This Out-Tao Seniya thinks that, after one dies, his soul returns to "the sea of nature 性海". (Sokushinzebutsu 即心是仏, «Shobogenzo»)
No life. No end of life. 不生 不滅 [fusho fumetsu]
Since there is no end of life, it is not possible for an individual soul / self to go somewhere.
«Caution»
Please do NOT think that you return to Tao after your life. (☞See [Note] above to find out why you cannot.)

Thanks for todays dose of tao medicine. Tao - like waves on a vast ocean, although short lived, nothing gets taken away from it. Tao is always, and we are tao : )
