After I posted the video where I build the electric glockenspiel accompanied by Jean Michel Jarre's "Aerology" I got some requests for doing a complete song on the instrument instead of just a bit part.
Now I have made this video where the glockenspiel plays the entire song - except for a solo and a choir part.
The song is called "This is my life" and was originally performed by the Danish rock band Gasolin' in this slow tempo. Today it is often played by Kim Larsen - the lead singer in Gasolin' - with his current band in a much faster arrangement.
The guitar is played on a Roland E-15, the drums on a Boss DR-220, the organ and strings on a Technics SX-C600 organ, and the solo on Roland SH-2000 synthesizer.

  • Wow thats a really good piece of kit . May need a better echo chamber bellow. But its great to see some thing that has been designed and built , `````````````````much more impressive than a simple music video. The music is nice but I am much more impressed by the knowledge and skill in the electric gizmo.

  • @onablueplanet - Echo chamber? Well........yes, but I wanted something that was relatively portable. And the sound is actually quite loud (of course depending on how much current the motors get).

  • Hi Flemming, very nice melody on your own creation instrument. Are you trigger it from a keyboard or from a computer?, and, where you take from the sound at 2:25?

    Thanks

  • @juanchow56 - The solo at 2:25 is performed on the Roland SH-2000 synthesizer with the preset "Singing Voice" and a little portamento.

The glockenspiel is triggered from a small one-octave keyboard. No MIDI or CV - only switches and 14 wires.

  • wow that is fantastic electric glockenspiel, Fleming I like the melody you play on your electric glockenspiel,

    congratulations

  • @danielpaq thanks. And I actually have a bigger one. I will make a video of it soon.

jeg har gået til marimba i en del år og syntes at den kunne være dejligt hvis du kunne hjælpe mig med denne seje maskine/glockenspiel.

    med venelig hilsen David

  • This is awesome!!! Great job!!

  • HAHA it looks like you have taken a stack of mousetraps, and builded it together.. xD

  • This is great! recently my father-in-law said how he doesn't like Bruce Springsteen because the E-Street Band has a Glockenspiel. WTF! E Street to the Death... Any comments, please leave them, maybe he'll come to his senses?

  • @drjustinjohnson - Yes, but that is a common problem/charm with electromechanical instruments. The reason is that on pure mechanical instruments - like a piano - the tone strikes when the key is fully depressed - which is the most natural response. But on an instrument like this the depression of the keys are only part of the action. When the key is pressed the power to the hammers are switched on and then the electric action starts. This extra action gives the delay.

  • This is the greatest school in the history of the earth! YouTube!

  • Simply wonderful!!! love the synth solo too!
