Episode 1: Making Iodine from NaI

Hello Fellow Chemists. In this video I will show you how you can make crystal iodine from Sodium or Potassium Iodide. Simply dissolve the iodide in water, and add Hydrochloric acid. Pour this mixture into Hydrogen Peroxide. Filter, Recrystalize and that's it!

What purity is your H2O2 solution?

3% from a pharmacy. It probably has stabilizers and other shit in it.

When I tried this, water condensed with the iodine during sublimation, so to dry it I melted it under conc. H2SO4 and sublimed again (suggested by woelen). If I were to do it again I'd dry with sulfuric acid right after decanting and sublime once.

how much of every thing did u use? and how did you get the NaI? can you make it by reacting a small solution of sodium hydroxide and iodine?
