This tutorial by Stuart Christensen will help you create a simple yet effective 2D waterfall that you can output and composite with live footage or plates. The 2D fluid container is perfect for creating simple waterfalls or gushing water type effects that may be just a background element or used as a primary effect. Pay close attention to matching the environment and and adding some noise to the fluid for the proper look and you will be on your way to creating super waterfall effects. Now get busy!

  • Hi Stuart, why can't I find FluidShade in my outliner? All I can see is a FluidEmitter1 parented to Fluid1....

  • @icantseeyou2 You should probably select the shader from the hypershade and from the the menu go to Graph input and output connections and it should show as a node in the hypershade window that you can then select. Hope that helps.

  • @deepfriedectoplasm Thank you!! BTW if I want to make a an animation that shows the "water" comes down, how can I make the fluid go straight down from the beginning? Cuz now the fluid I made looks like an arrow in the beginning, thanks again!

  • @icantseeyou2 Yes, you need to set the fluids initial state, that is, if you look in the menu for fluid effects you will see a choice for "set initial state", so play the animation up to the point where it looks right and then (with the fluid selected_Highlighted) go to the menu and set the initial state, also, when you are done making any changes you may want to go to the Fluid nCache menu and choose "Create New Cache" to put the effect into memory so to speak.
