Yea, there was definitely a divide as far as I could tell, and I was only too happy to cross it, from the yobrock of Dragon and Cold Chisel to the Models and the Latest thing form England. My inspiration was purely getting the nice girls and legitimizing my angst about bullies and suburban cricket clubs, as well as the indy ethic let me imagine I could join in. But eventually I liked guitars again too much and fell in love with it, Hoodoo Gurus and Johnny's, dance music and Es killed my dreams
The 80's music scene in Australia was owned by this mob, these 'oh so well to do young pseudo intellectual limp wristed lisping arty boys with perfect teeth from the leafier suburbs'. Unless you were accepted into their little incestuous circle you were OUT! You couldn't get booked anywhere, regardless of the quality of the music you played. These guys grew up and went to school with the very people that would later handle all aspects of their career plus mummy and daddy bought all their gear.
That whole ethinc print clothing of the early 90's...........
