I was 13 in 1969, and this was my beach! I remember Spiros Kefalas. He was a great guy. My family always stayed at the Crystal Apartments. I miss the old restaurant on the pier. You could get the best hot dogs and play pinball, or get a great stuffed flouder. The Lumina Pavillion was still up and running. I always wanted to go to the upper area at Lumina (18 and above only), but they tore it down when i was 17!!!

Aside from the bathing suits and the pier being half taken by the hurricanes of the 90's, what's shown in this video of the beach actually still looks a lot like that today. Blockade Runner is in the background. That water tower is before my time. The jetty seems to have been built up more since then. Certainly many things would look much different if they camera did a 180. I always enjoy looking at old photos and video of Wilmington and WB. Thanks

I started going to WB in '68 @ 15 years old, My best friend lived next door to Crystal Pier and his Grandfather built the pier. Now at 59..this brings back the innocence of that era.

That is old Crystal Pier. I was born in 1973 in Wilmington about 4 miles away. Good video!!

Thats crystal pier. the old water tower in in the background.. Anyone remember the guy named Spiro (greek) who ran the place? I used to fish off the jetty

I was stationed out there in Fort Bragg NC in the late nineties.......it is crazy to see the beach back in '69. Very cool video

Pretty sure that's the old Crystal Pier. I can see the Jetty. This is the way I remember it. The new sucks. Boycott it.
