The aircraft is a T-45 Goshawk trainer.

Once again this is a fine example of if life gives you lemons; you make lemonade. I think this shows that the military often studies its mishaps and often makes them public so that everyone can benefit by learning from the mistakes, thusly prevent additional mishaps. Often tragedies are learning experiences. Like they say, the road to success is often paved with failures.

Demonstrates superb airmanship. It's not just that "in the air piloting" ("stick and rudder") skills that are necessary to be a good pilot; in order to be a good pilot (and crew) one should be honest open and able to give honest evaluations and self-criticism.

I think they did an excellent job getting the aircraft back on the ground safely, however they knit picked and analyzed the mishap so next time hopefully it can be handled even better.

Note and warning to pilots. Turning back to an airfield the after a loss of power is extremely dangerous. It is often referred as going for the "sucker field". Quite often the best option is to make a controlled crash without doing any extreme banking in the flattest remote field that you can.

Unlike civilian aircraft this aircraft had ejection seats, that could have allowed the pilots to bail out if they didn't have enough energy to return to the runway. Also the engine still was producing a fair amount of power, and they had a fair amount of speed and altitude; which allowed them to return to the field. The Martin Baker Mk 14 ejection seats gave them a high probability of survival in case an ejection was needed if they stalled or came up short.

  • ATSFCrash dummy...You don't know engine fails on take off and you are trying to stop others from practicing what you cannot do. There are maybe thousands of these turnbacks done well each year..of course, no accident not published..the ones like you that crash because you are too cow to practice are the ones that crash out of airport, even with altitude to land back..You are the Sociopath..I saved lives, you cankill with your coward don't exercise hard maneuvering "advise" that is antisocial.

  • CFITOMAHAWK2: Once again you lie. Youre proving yourself to be ignorant as well as a pathological liar. I never said I was scared; nor did I say I never did the maneuvers.

You remind me of the moronic kids that use the motto (no fear). Only a mentally ill fool would have no fear; it is healthy to have reasonable fear; however it is unhealthy to have unfounded or disproportional fears or no fear at all. Some fear keeps us safe. Having a moral conscious.

  • CFITOMAHAWK2: You mistake having empathy (a respect for public safety) for personal fear; because you are a sociopath.

Only sociopath fool would unnecessarily risk the lives of the public; Like in your insistence that Flight 1549 should have turned back to the runway.

  • Contrary to you that only talk about how scary those exercises are I do them real, even at night....so shame on you...If you are so scare, go fly kites...for me you are not a pilot unless you do the four main kinds of Take off emergencies...But in many flight schools they ignore them...Don' t PROMOTE FEAR AND IGNORANCE...you do them first on FS, then I teach them for real on Tomahawks, Grummans, Pipers and even C-310...All airplanes can Question Mark and be landed back with good training, cow.

  • CFITOMAHAWK2: You brainless pathological liar lower than a rat. I never said those exercises were scary. As I said only a sociopath idiot like yourself would unnecessarily risk their own lives or the lives of the public. To have fear for the public safety is to have empathy and a moral conscience; which you dont seem to have.

  • CFITOMAHAWK2: Unnecessarily doing risky aerobatics over a densely populated area is a safety violation and a violation of the law and morally reprehensible. If you were a sane pilot you would know that. Your assertion that Flight 1549 could have landed back is a reckless disregard for safety. You definitely are promoting ignorance. If you were really interested in flight safety and public safety; you would know that some reasonable fear is good; thats why they show safety shock videos like mine

  • FLY NAVY!

  • That and there are a plethora of people who have nothing better to do than troll.

It really, seriously makes me question how many of these trolls we could track back to classrooms across America where kids are supposedly studying actually using the classroom computers all day to spam.

  • Great video. The comments were pretty good until the ambulance chaser CFITOMAHAWK2 started spamming and making personal attacks and insane ignorant rants. Thats one of the problems with YouTube, you cant have intelligent civilized dialogue without it being hijacked, spammed, trolled and slandered by ignorant uncivilized lunatics.

  • CFITOMAHAWK2 has been spamming me. It is a leech; and is trying to work with shysters to launch baseless lawsuits to bilk Capt Sully and airlines; because CFITOMAHAWK2 is a failure at aviation and jealous and greedy. CFITOMAHAWK2 is a jackass of all trades but a master of none. The fag teaches danceing and only friends seem to be transvestites.

  • CFITOMAHAWK2 is a moron. He wants to unnecessarily risk lives and violate the law. He is too cowardice to obey the law and risk his own life for the greater good of the public. Capt Sully is a hero for saving lives by not turning back to LGA; instead choosing to ditch; thereby keeping the public on the grounds safe. I doubt CFITOMAHAWK2 is a pilot; if he is he should lose his license. No sane pilot would have recommended that Flight 1549 should have landed at LGA.

  • You need a mental health check and safety training CFITOMAHAWK2. I dont think you should be in the aviation community at all. I think Captain Scully did the right thing. Allegedly since the accident, simulating the conditions professional Airbus pilots tried to land at LGA using professional Airbus A320 simulators; allegedly none of them could make it back to the runway, even after several tries.

  • Incredibly good video. Superb self critique. No matter how well an emergency is handled there is always something that can be learned from it and a way to handle it better.

Looks like CFITOMAHAWK2 needs to learn how to handle criticism. A pilot that is not open to criticism, is an accident waiting to happen. A pilot that thinks he doesnt make any mistakes is in denial and is a danger to the public.
