Coal train T132 rolls downgrade from Benson into Dunn, North Carolina. This is the North Dunn interlocking, and you can see the searchlight signals in the back ground guarding the end of the double track. This was the sight of the interchange with the Durham and Southern Railway, and later the Dunn-Erwin Railway. The tracks still remain in place from the connection switch onto the A-line and a cement plant adjacent to the old D&S offices, although the spur is out of service now. This line was once a classic southeastern shortline running from this ACL connection to Durham, and it was merged into the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad on 1-1-1977. The line north of Apex remains in place as the D&S branch of CSX Transportation, and 4 D&S locomotives still work for CSX. D&S 2000-2003 became SCL 556-559, and now run on CSX as 2556-2559. They are easy to identify, as these are the only CSX GP38-2's without dynamic brakes.
