To let a baby cry it out, make sure it is not fussy for a specific reason, lay it gently in a crib, and create a calming environment. Do not allow a baby to cry by itself for more than five minutes, and consider advice from the mother of three young children in this free video on parenting.

  • I let both my kids cry it out and they are very well adjusted kids. (they are 7 and 8 now) They still trust me and don't have any mommy abandonment issues. I do believe kids can get spoiled if you pick them up every time they cry. My nephew is almost 4 years old and every time his mom leaves the room he cries so she picks him up and he stops. I think that is CRAZY!!!

  • Letting babies cry is not mean...they learn to self soothe. I have been a Nanny and a home daycare provider for over thirty years, and I I have seen the damage that over-protective parenting has done to kids. We have a generation of spoiled self absorbed children out there. I have taken care of many babies over the years, and all it takes is a few days for them to learn that they have the ability to help themselves! What a great lesson to learn.

  • your baby never cries anyway..lol

  • Umm...young babies can't really be spoiled, and there is a big difference in giving your baby the care and attention it needs verses buying a screaming child a toy, and saying that the baby will grow up spoiled is idiotic.

  • I think there is a lot of good in this. Babies often just cry to say 'Mum, I'm here! Just so you know!" :)

  • @gennaiafebbraio totally agree with you! I feel bad if I let him cry alone (ignore his wants) ... He feel safe and calm in my hug.

  • @gennaiafebbraio They will grow up spoiled rotten if you attend to them instantly every time.
