A Memory on a Summer Day ~ Kevin Bell of Oregon Ice Works

Willie Wonka, you've just been replaced with a guy selling a very cool treat.

Kevin Bell grew up in Philly (he's still a diehard sports fan) and has pleasant memories of hot Philly sandwiches in the winter and refreshing water ice in the summer. He followed a responsible path throughout his youth, doing all the things he thought he should. But there was no passion for the sales position he was in and decided it was time to shake up his life. He needed to move, and he and his new puppy narrowed the list down to New Zealand and Portland, Oregon. Not wanting the new puppy to be quarantined, Kevin took "the greatest road trip" of his life to serve water ice to the people of the Pacific Northwest. His passion had been discovered and Oregon Ice Works was born.

The natives were not familiar with the frozen treat, but Kevin found the key to crossing that chasm: He used the local fruit to create Northwest flavors of an East Coast concoction. It worked. Kevin's natural desserts now have a loyal following and Oregon Ice Works is breaking into the wholesale business with upscale, healthy food stores.

Kevin loves his lifestyle business and doesn't see changing any time soon. It allows him to support many charitable causes with his business. Plus, he puts a smile on a child's face when he hands them a scoop of their favorite flavor on a hot summer day -- a memory they will have forever. And he made it possible.

Oregon Ice Works manufactures water ice with natural, local fruit flavors. Meat and vegetarian Philly sandwiches also are sold at its food stand in southeast Portland, Oregon.
