Arthur Kane was a member. David did this as a tribute for Arthur.
I live in Utah. I am not LDS, but this brings a tear. It is beautiful.

It was a depressing film- and I think this really showed how David felt about Arthur- and part of me hopes and prays that wherever Arthur is- he saw this- and can finally rest. He died being what he always wanted to be - a NY Doll. RIP Arthur Doll.

What a nice tribute.

It is really a perfect epilogue to the film.. Truly moving, and fitting in light of the subject matter. I was so depressed at the end of the film, but this song just lifted my spirits, a beautiful reaffirmation of life.

It was done as a tribute to Arthur- it can be found at the end of "New York Doll" a film biography about Arthur. Very touching- Arthur would have loved it!

I'm LDS. I love this hymn. And it's a tastefully done, but I'm curious as to why David Johansen chose to perform it. Is it in tribute to the late Arthur Kane and New York Dolls bandmate of Johansen's who was a member of the Church? Is David Johansen a member of the Church? Or Brian Koonin?
they are not members ... it was performed as a tribute to Arthur.
