Larry Winiwini playing a monster of a yirdaki and really rocking it. The yirdaki was that powerful the DV camera I was using was shaking and vibrating from the energy, being only a foot or so away from the end of the bell.

You can get a sense of the loudness and power of this yirdaki during the scene where Larry pans the yirdaki from left to right. The rest of the time, the automatic volume gain on the camera brought the volume of the instrument down to a level that could be processed by the camera's internals.

  • I think what blows me away the most about this video is that it is such a great example of his mastery of the places in between each beat. It sends me to wonderful places, I am so pleased to get to listen in!

  • Glad it has been useful!

  • i love how he's not using his cheeks but his throat and neck to circular breath, thats a hard technique to learn, obviously an experience playa.

  • Winiwini is experienced indeed, he has been playing yirdaki since he was a little boy. Where abouts are you located blindfred?
