Detailed tutorial on how to easily extract DNA from any organism.

I know at the end that YouTube's quality is probably not good enough for the DNA stands to be seen falling off, but that's ok, because when you do it you will be able to see :)

By the way, I highly recommend you don't use yeast. It's a lot easier!

  • Hey Mac, When are you gonna blow stuff up?

  • 2008. Only burning in '07

  • Ah... Might I suggest using Aluminium and Carbon Tetrachloride/Permanganate? or perhaps chlorate and sugar?

  • I'm not familiar with the first one, but I'm doing the second for sure!

  • Well that was a good video, and why?, because the headphones have returned. Order has returned to the universe.

  • If you do DNA extraction experiments properly (i.e. breaking down the cells to release nucleus e.t.c) the alcochol precipitates the DNA. Cheers to the dude who made this video

  • Papaya will work like the pineapple juice, and some Tame conditioner or Aussie 3 day have lot of a useful ingredient. Thanks!

  • Dude what do you do with it afterwards can you splice?

  • blood has no dna in it?what about white blood cells.nice video though

  • well done dude :) for youtubers, who are looking for some intelligent fun, this should work well. U can try other samples too, but u need a lot of them to actually see the DNA. I m extracting DNA from endophytic actinomycetes, and Geez, it isnt as fun as this!

  • maybe i m too late for telling u this. Anyway, if i m not mistaken, meat tenderizer acts as an enzyme such as proteinase. It will inactivate the enzyme in the cell, before the enzyme destroy the DNA.

  • i am writing a college lab paper over this exact experiment right now and i need to know what exactly the meat tenderizer does, any help?

  • I feel bored so this is for people who don't understand: The yeast does nothing except provide a substance to extract DNA from, You add the detergent which breaks down the cells in the yeast but leaves the DNA, you add the alcahol which acts as a medium for the dna to be able to rise into so you can see it, you insert the mixing stick and break the "wall" between the alcahol and detergent mixture so the DNA can float up and you see it.

  • Very biopunk ;)

  • dude your right

  • your amazing!!
