William Mac inspired me to write a vlog of my own, an in-depth analysis of not only this thing called entertainment, but it's bigger brother, technology. "Drip drip from the IV" says Mac, and try as hard as I can to disagree, as I do with almost anything said to me, it's impossible to. Because the truth is, that truth itself has vanished from existence, replaced by accepted mediocricy, and the eventual rationalization of apathy.
I ask, "Why waste time watching Grey's Anatomy, when instead you could be talking to people about illegal immigration, the war in iraq, the economic recession and eventual crash on the horizion. Things that truly affect us, things we actually have a say in, no matter how indirectly it might be." And I almost always get the same response, "It's too boring, I just don't care."
This is the situation we face, this.... Apathy is what plagues our generation. A generation brought up on tv, internet, wireless connections, pointless arguments, reality shows, celebrity news, monkey smoking videos, superbowl commercials, mind numbing... entertainment.
Entertainment is the "big drug" that William Mac so adequetly puts as the heroin of our generation. I gotta get my next fix, weather it be a football game, law and order, mxc, it doesn't matter, I need to get it, I'm willing to pay any price for it, even my precocious time that i have so little of. Our generation is one of the first to spend the most time of our lives in front of a tv, being mesmerized by the images fed to us through the tube. Injected into the brain, get me another, I feel dizzy from the ad nauseim of it all.
But I'm not here to complain, much less make pointless and useless excuses for my peers. Nor do I intend to set myself up as some all knowing, always right, 18 year old from some no where suburb south of Chicago. I'm here to maybe provide an answer, a solution to the dilemma that William Mac poses.
There is a small known saying, that goes, "Low-tech, high-touch". That's the answer. We needn't be afraid of each other. We have opinions, and they won't always match up with everyone we meet. But talk about those opinions, accept changes if people make a good argument with evidence to back it up. Don't allow to be fed the answers. Mainstream media is hardly the right spoon to hand feed the masses. The spoon itself is dirty, rusty, just nasty to even look at. The answer lies within each one of us. The spoon should be us.
Today, I encourage you, yes you the viewer, the few hundred that I hope even watch this little corner of youtube that is my channel. I encourage you to go talk to people. Not about the superbowl and how bullshit it was that the Giants won, but talk about issues that affect you that you can change. Am I suggesting diving straight into politics, even though the politics of today is sly, dirty, greedy, power-hungry, adjectives that send fear straight into your soul. But it's also something else, it's the foundation of our great nation, it's the basis of why we are the America of today. It's the reason why we have any sort of urge at all to make any sort of change wherever we are.
So I leave you tonight with a simple thought, a thought we have seem to forgotten. A thought that brings change. "Go talk"
Good night, and good luck.
kinda need to walk around with a baseball bat and keep your ears open for who needs to be hit over the head for being stupid... dont worry im hoping most of those "entertained" people will starve in the depression.
