At 1:16:46 on that specific kind of level, there is a way around that fight with the drake. go back and to the left should be a passage where you should find a switch to step on to make floating cubes appear to cross over it.:)

About your running away from fights problem: it's the Tonberry and Elder Drake fights you can't run away from. Everyone else you can, including post Floor 80 Chacs!! Just for future reference DK, I know from experience.

@Darkkefka Surprised you didn't go to the hidden portal on the Mihen Highroad. You can face a boss there who's name is a Final Fantasy 7 reference, which you can fight here.
