This is just a quick video showing the Apple TV 2 and the android remote to control it.

The apple TV2 software version 4.4.4 was jailbroken by following;

http://support.firecore.com/entries/387605

I had some small issues with getting the device into the DFU mode, but i got another USB cable that was shorter and it worked first time.

Connect back to the TV, power first then HDMI then network(if cabled) ***in that order

Then i SSH using Putty on windows to the Apple TV2's IP address
(Username: root, Password: alpine)
I ran:
apt-get -y update && apt-get -y upgrade
apt-get -f install
apt-get -y install com.nito.nitotv ; killall AppleTV

Using the apple remote with the tv display enter NitoTV and install XBMC

Also ensure that your system Time and Date and IP (I would suggest making it static ip) are correct with the apple TV before continuing.

Back in putty I ran;

apt-get install com.nito.updatebegone
reboot

This stops the Apple updates interfering with XBMC (xbmc can crash otherwise) {You can also apt-get remove nito.updatebegone to set it back to updating}

Reconnect via Putty and give it another update, just in case;

apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
reboot

Now lets make XBMC load straight up instead of apple TV.

apt-get install org.tomcool.xbmc-booter

(If you need to remove it putty back in and run apt-get remove org.tomcool.xbmc-booter)

From there i grabbed the official Android XBMC remote app, and mapped my servers shares, and added them telling XBMC what type of content was on the share.
