Art Without Boundaries: Reconnections

This lovely lady was an artist, but had lost the ability to communicate (receptive and expressive aphasia) or understand information she was receiving from her senses. (agnosia).

Although she made eye contact and responded to physical cueing, at the beginning of the session, she seemed disconnected and would drop the brush and stare off into middle space. We were thrilled that we captured the moment when she began to move the paintbrush independently. You can almost see the brain engage. By the end of the session, she was speaking in complete sentences, was proud of the painting she had done and had reconnected with her world.
