Prayer Flags for Life is a work by Judy Dominic. It is on display on the campus of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio through February 2010.
Judy notes that the studio space used to mud the scarves held 6 at a time that was all she could see at any point. Yes, I was good and started with a cartoon of the design, but you know how lines change as one works so the cartoon wasnt very reliable. Each scarf needed to connect, design-wise, with the ones on each side (30 across) as well as top and bottom (4 rows). Also the design needed to flow well from the center in each direction when the panels crossed. THAT part was a bit challenging to accomplish, but as you can see it worked.
"Prayer Flags for Life" is part of the Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati exhibition in the third floor gallery of the Gallagher Student Center at Xavier University. Celebrating Women: Innovation within Tradition, honors the admission of female students to Xavier in 1969 and features objects created by Guild members specifically for this juried show. Each artwork incorporates at least one innovation, invention, or new idea from the last forty years, whether in fiber techniques, equipment, or materials, or in cultural trends or historical events.
It was a grand experience to look up and see this beautiful work when we first entered the building at Xavier! It fits the space perfectly!
