I am not for scrapping it, I think they should use the fair tax system, the income tax is unconstitutional anyhow.

Our country is interfering with so many countries with illegal wars and over 170 bases overseas, the US empire is going to fall line all other empires if we don't cut these horrible wastes of $.

I don't trust corporations or goverments, corporations always inbed themselves in the government then influence regulations to their will. big gov allows corporations to rule.

  • @NYerintransit,

Something rather better than that which the religious claim to provide. Something that would hold up to ordinary scientific method. Besides, whenever the religious attempt to provide "proof," all they're really doing is admitting that their faith isn't enough.

  • @OxTheWriter What proof do you need?

  • @NYerintransit,

Probably because at some point, those people don't see the point in worshipping or believing in something for which there isn't much, if any, concrete proof. Plus, religion has lost some of its draw because it's lost some of its power to compel the simulation of belief.

  • I don't think the distinction is as powerful as you're making it out to be. Its not exactly a big leap for someone to go from having no religious affiliation to simply not believing in God. Why someone would choose to take such a journey, I wouldn't begin to understand, but quite a few people do nowadays. I'm sure there are all kinds of reasons.

  • @NYerintransit,

Yes, that's an interesting point, but again, the phrase was "no specific religious affiliation." Loss of faith in religion isn't the same thing as loss of faith in "God."

If there is an increase in atheism, I doubt that political conservatives have much to do with it. They just don't help religion look good.

  • @OxTheWriter For all intents and purposes, its the same thing. And if atheism is merely a product of disillusionment with political conservatives, then I would say that's not a good enough reason to give up one's faith. Because with God, you've lost control and absurdity takes over your life.

  • @NYerintransit,

To be more accurate, the statement was that people were saying they had no specific religious affiliation, rather than being atheists. Not that more atheists in the U.S. would be a bad thing.

  • Dan Savage says something very powerful in 5:10-5:30. He admits that a lot of atheism today is simply a reaction to the Religious Right.
