  • @90geekgirl06 My job here is done :D

  • For all those crying RACISM, please consider:

Gone With The WInd featured black slaves being abused and belittled, and yet I have not heard one person cry "racism". In fact it is considered one of the great classics, even though it is incredibly racist.

Now, this movie, a CHILDREN'S movie, may I point out, features a black man who is humble, polite, sweet, and kind, and yet it is blacklisted.

    Think about it.

  • @Dawnpool93 Well fantastic. Now I have both those songs stuck in my head.

  • @Brook1888 its a small world after all. It's a small world after all. It's a small world after all, its a small small world.

    Or:

    Duck tales WOOooo

  • Its weird how I know most of these songs but have never seen this movie before.

  • Okay, I know a lot of people jump on the 'Racist Bandwagon' so to speak when it comes to this film, but Walt Disney wasn't like that. Walt's whole concept was being able to tell stories in a variety of ways in a family setting, and I firmly believe that was what he was doing here. I just don't think he set out to offend anyone when he made this film. Walt's boyhood and adult hero was even Abraham Lincoln.

In the end I guess it just all comes down to how one percieves Song of the South.

  • Uncle Remus is the star of the film! Why? Because he was so HUMBLE, so gentle and ready to admit his mistakes, and, to quickly, commend others for their good deeds! When I saw this in the movie theater way back in 1986, or 1987, with my children, there were several scenes where I was crying quietly, so as not to let my kids know it. I cried because of Uncle Remus's beautiful humility, even under those sad circumstances! Yes, slavery was evil, but this film is very loving, Disney's "m.o." Love!

  • @Aquarianbrass Stop with the racist crap! The actor playing Remus, did he get paid, was he chosen by Walt Disney for the part? Yes! He could've said NO to Disney, & said "I'm NOT going to do it!" NO,, he made the movie, it was a BIG HIT, still is! My son is Black, my sister's married for 34 years to a super Black man! We all love this film, because it's NOT racist, rather, its a lovely film! Remus is "King", because of his humility! Something we ALL NEED TO LEARN,, HUMILITY!

  • It's a pity I'm one of the 'few' children who were deprived of that movie!

  • The problem with "Song of the South" is and has always been the audience holding onto racist and historical preconceptions. Do you want to truly understand Uncle Remus? Go to Project Gutenberg and download the Joel Chandler Harris books for free, and then read them out aloud in a different voice
