May 7th 2010 PHOENIX, AZ: For the second week in a row, Spokanes game came down to the final play. But this week, the Shock got the results they were looking for with a 63-56 win over the Arizona Rattlers. The win gives the Shock (3-2) first place in the division, with a one game lead over Arizona.

In a back and forth contest, that included six tie scores, it all came down to the final play. Former Shock QB Nick Davila and the Arizona Rattlers started the final drive of the game from the eight-yard line with just over one minute left in the game, down by a touchdown. On the ninth play of the of the drive, Davila fired a pass into the endzone that fell incomplete leaving no time on the game clock. But, a pass interference call against Spokanes defense, allowed the Rattlers offense to have one more chance. That penalty brought the ball up to the three-yard line for one final shot at the endzone on an untimed down. Davila dropped back and fired a pass that bounced off the nets and fell into hands of DB William Mulder, for his second interception of the season, and sealed the victory for the Shock.

In a game of possessions, Spokanes defense came up with three stops that proved to be the difference in the game. In addition to Mulders interception, DB Alex Teems also came up with a pick, his first of the season.

Late in the first half, with the game tied at 21, Arizonas offense marched down to the 18-yard line in only five plays. Davila took a shot at the endzone but Teems snagged the pass for the defenses first stop of the game. Spokanes offense took advantage of the turnover and five plays later QB Kyle Rowley connected with WR Huey Whittaker for a three-yard touchdown to give Spokane its second lead of the game.

Early in the second half, the Shocks defense came up with another critical stop. With only 12 yards separating Arizonas offense from the endzone Davila scrambled out of the pocket to run for the first down. Once again, Teems came up with a big stop and left Davila short of the first down and gave the ball back to Spokanes opportunistic offense. Four plays later, Spokane scored on a 15-yard pass to WR Raul Vijil to give the Shock their third lead of the game.

Vijil ended the night leading the team in receptions (10), receiving yards (157) and touchdown receptions (4), including the game winner. WR Huey Whittaker was second on the team in receptions (7) receiving yards (83) and touchdown receptions (2). WR Markee White also had a productive night that included a 34-yard touchdown reception mid-way through the fourth quarter.

QB Kyle Rowley completed 22 of his 37 pass attempts for 369 yards and seven touchdowns. Davila ended the night completing 28 of his 43 pass attempts for 346 yards and seven touchdowns. 14 of Davila's passes went to leading receiver Rod Windsor while four of his touchdown passes went to JJ McKelvey.

The Shock are now undefeated on the road and in the Western Division. Next week, the Shock travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Yard Dawgz on Sunday May 16th. The Shock will return home to Spokane Tribe Field on May 22nd as they host the Utah Blaze. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by contacting TicketsWest.
