Motorola has unveiled new details for the Atrix HD launch. I go over the specs, features, release date, & price of the Atrix HD for AT&T and Bell. At first blush, the new phone's something of a Droid RAZR / RAZR Maxx hybrid: it has a very similar Kevlar back, and its 1780mAh battery and 8.4mm-thick body both fall somewhere between the two RAZR models. The Atrix HD's other specs are impressive for a $99 (on contract) handset: it's powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor (update: it's a Snapdragon) and 1GB of RAM, and comes with 8GB of internal storage. The "HD" moniker comes from the new handset's 4.5-inch, 720p display, which comes with Motorola's ColorBoost technology. There's also an 8-megapixel camera on the phone's back capable of shooting 1080p video at 30 frames per second, and the Atrix HD can output its display or 1080p video via an HDMI-out port.

Google's supposed nepotism be damned, there's no Jelly Bean to be found on the Atrix HD. Instead it's running Android 4.0, with what appears to be one of the lightest skins we've seen yet from Motorola — the company did include its handy Smart Actions utility, but from the icons to the on-screen Android navigation buttons the device looks more like Google and less like Motorola. There's also a new Circle Widget on the device, which puts time, notifications, weather, and more in a single Venn Diagram-style space.

The most surprising thing about the Atrix HD's announcement is that there was no mention of new LapDock-like accessories, which debuted with the original Atrix at CES 2011, or even of compatibility between the new phone and old devices. As we've seen both with the Atrix and the PadFone, no one's yet perfected that particular paradigm, with your phone as your hub and everything else as modular accessories. Maybe Motorola's giving up trying.

In addition to AT&T, the Atrix HD will also be coming to Bell customers in Canada. No word yet on availability in either country. (Update: it'll be out July 15th for AT&T, and coming later to our Canadian pals.)

Actually this phone doesn't use the TI OMAP chipset, it uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4.

How responsive is this phone? Is it on par with the Galaxy S3 or the One X? Is it as fast?
