NOTE: Youtube highly compresses video, therefore the actual in-camera file (AVCHD) is much more detailed than what you are seeing here. Should be 1080@60p.

Zero noise at 30DB of ISO sensitivity, filmed at 1080p@60p (Sony's extension of AVCHD).

Can colour grade in post.

Sony NEX-FS100 optimized for video
- Super 35mm Exmor Sensor
- 99% of sensor fully utilized to construct video
- Optimized optical low-pass filter
- Low megapixel sensor for low noise (3.4MP only)
- Operation aware encoder, adapts to gain setting in conjunction with standard AVCHDMPEG4 content adaptation.

This camcorder/cinema camera (whatever you want to call it) kicks ass.

The Sony NEX-FS100 out of the box is an NXCAM, that is it records to SD Cards in the AVCHD format. However if you take advantage of the HDMI output to an external recorder for 422 8-bit or 444 8-bit color and if you take into account the fact that the color latitude in the low light condition is superb, this camera is really snug between the XDCAM and CineAlta line of cameras. That is, this is an ultra professional camera for a cheaper price.

  • we're ordering one at work in a month based on my recommendations, I can't wait to shoot HQ b-roll around Kansas City with it.

  • @zenbeer Awesome, the trick is finding the right Picture Profile and determining if you want to use in-camera color or wanting to color grade after.

  • what lens did you use on both cams?

  • @Black7Cloud

    Both kit lenses.

    NEX-FS100 - 18mm to 200mm E-Mount

    D7000 - 18mm to 105mm

  • @dobunz i agree

  • Theres alot of noise in tis picture.

  • @paulohenriquekh But remember the NEX-FS100 wasn't using an f/1.2 lens, so it shows the dynamic range of the sensor/processor compared to the D7000 with a similar kit lens on it.

  • How is it that there are so many videos off d7000 just like this night street scene with no noise. And then if they are not optimized why are they being used professionally for video as well, for example "Black swan wasn't filmed with your SONY, but parts were filmed with the canon 5D m11 and 7D.

    I'm just saying.

  • Just bought it.

  • @paulohenriquekh First of all, brighter does not mean better. I would interpret "brighter" as meaning more saturated or over exposed on a CMOS sensor.

The look you want in a camera (the ungraded image) is a FLAT image with lots of color latitude. If you shoot bright off of the camera and into your codec, then you will lose detail either in your highlights or shadows.

The NEX-FS100 is the first true filmic camera in the sub $6000 price range.

  • @raredreamfootage Well man, a 7D with a 50 f/1.2 will produce brighter footage than this, not to mention BEAUTIFUL bokeh. For the price, the 7D is much more worth... still, this is a great camera. But since the DSLR fever, I just haven't been surprised by any other cameras other than film and digital film cameras. DLSRs are still the way to go in my opinion (that is considering your budget).
