@DzignrGrl LOL! front wheel drive is much easier to recover from oversteer with than RWD. all you have to do in a fwd car is steer where you want to go and gas it!
I did some serious research since I just moved up to WV, and was worried about y RX-8 in the snow. I found that Continental Extreme DWS are very highly rated and actually less expensive than the bigger brands. They rated #1 on Tirerack up against all the major company's. I have them on my car and they did an awesome job. DWS stands for Dry Wet Snow, and the tires have an imprint of DWS in the tread, as each letter wears away it means it is no longer recommended for that type of weather.
Bridgestone Blizzak are the recommended snow tires for this car. I read a review that they did pretty good. The Mazda folks at the dealership still don't recommend driving it in the snow at all. I never got snow tires last winter as I tried to avoid driving in the snow as much as I could! Public transportation or a ride from someone else is still the safest way to go.
I almost had 3 accidents with my RX8 last winter!!! I love my car, I live in Chicago and it sure snows so which are the best tires to buy for snow? I want to be ready for winter...
But if you are sliding in the snow, at least you can counter steer with rear drive, unlike front wheel. I live in New Jersey and haven't had too many storms here this year. If you get more snow than me, then I would recommend a secondary form of transportation...for you and your RX's safety!
@slam4444444444444444 fwd causes tons of understeer, which is why only economy cars use it..

This would have been cool if it were a year before the car was released.
