This is the siren in the tower of my fire station. Giving it a few blows for the start of drill night.

Our siren is specifically set up to blow on the initial dispatch, after that it goes into a lock out mode for ten minutes. During those ten minutes the tones can be set off from the county control without triggering the house siren. This way the neighborhood isn't deafened two or three times at three o'clock in the morning.

Well, that is your opinion. The fact remains that you do not understand why we still operate with a house siren.

    1.Secondary notification of an alarm.

2.It's a warning to the neighborhood that POVs/fire apparatus are going to be driving to and from the station. This gives them warning to clear the streets.

3.We are a VFD, not paid.

4.Most VFDs in the county use house sirens, so your complaints about hearing it all the time would fall on deaf ears. Thanks for your comment and view

  • is that a fire truck or what

  • @nathan12345toto

    House. Siren. Read the description.

  • is the siren a sth-10?

  • @cyclone4311

Sure. Your guess is as good as mine, probably better than mine really. I wish I had a better answer, but that's all I got.

  • Our station has a siren as well. It sucks though cause I work right next door and can never hear what we're getting toned out to until 4 or 5 mins later. Kinda annoying.

  • STH-10

  • model 2

  • awsome

  • @nwvfd22 Its called Redundancy, If pagers don't alert, the siren works, and vice versa

  • Is this near Kinzua lake?

  • @nwvfd22 I agree with you. I am a volunteer firefighter also. and when our pager goes off so the siren but we can manually disable it if we are at the hall for something.

  • @fcfdladder22 Look at this, you calling me dumb. First, learn to spell, second, know who you are talking to, I have been a nationally registered paramedic for the past 6 years. I am quite sure I know a lot more than emergency management than you; and yes, I am positively proud that Hanover County VA still uses sirens. We may have digital radios, but we still have tradition. Welcome to reality, you will run into a lot more assholes like me, "brother". See you on the big one.

  • @hootergirlsrhot ya i get that know the comment i made it would be kinda annoying to hear the srien go off i get it now. i understand what it means now so sorry for expressing curiousity on how other departments do things different then where i live fairfax county VA im not used to other departments ways so relax seriosly
