This video IS available in HQ. If the HQ option does not show as usual at the bottom right of the video, just add &fmt=18 at the end of the URL for great audio quality. Thanks!

On Wednesday February 18, and on Friday February 20, 2009, George, Nick and myself recorded some music from our regular repertoire with the hopes of distributing this music to a wider audience, whether through a CD or by some other means. In the space of six hours all told, we recorded nearly 25 tunes, one take each, just as we do in our gigs. We also set up a camera so you can see the recording as it occurred. Other than a little compression and reverb, there are no edits and no mixing (I have balanced all output levels from the recording once and there are no further fader movements during playback, all dynamics are from the performance itself).

As the music gets ready for CD production there will probably be some mastering work to optimize audio quality. Meanwhile, we are presenting a few "teasers" from these sessions in order to generate some interest and to assist in, hopefully, getting some gigs...

Also, check out this brand new fun music: http://www.whotookthedough.com/. Once there, click on Recording Session Video. With the great Paul Keller on bass (Diana Krall) as well as myself on guitar.

  • Holy crapola! Sweet 'rangement fellas. All three of you guys pull some serious weight and the trio keeps your sound uncluttered while not being too thin. You can HEAR the fun your having, and the guitar solo after the head's been established is awesome!!!

  • Thanks very much!

  • excellant, both Steve and Paul would enjoy this no doubt!

  • I appreciate it!

  • great litle arrangement....beginning to wonder if there is anything you can't play and make it work in a jazzy way

  • Thanks! I think all pop music if fair game for jazz - just as all those Gershwin and Cole Porter songs are, as they were the pop songs of their day. True, the line between jazz and the pop music of the 40's was thinner because often the beat, instrumentation, and many of the people involved were shared. So, that makes it a challenge for me and others to take more current songs that don't swing or that are performed on electronic instruments or whatever, and make them jazz. Just my opinion...

  • Fabulous Jake. but I wish I could see your left hand from the front.

  • Superb arrangement and great sound of a popular 70s hit. Great guitar and bass. Drums are strong, but hard to record all three instruments evenly. Love it.
