One of Xenakis' three, four or five, depending on how loose your definition of "concerto" is, piano concerti. Claudio Abbado conducts Roger Woodward. Not all sheet music images are necessarily from this piece.

  • What are the score excerpts at 5:08, 5:13, and 5:17? Thanks.

  • The first is Clarence Barlow's Cogluotobusisletmesi, which the user scriabinwasmydad recently uploaded, and the other two are Donald Martino's Pianississimo, which has also been uploaded.

  • Thanks again for the great uploads John11inch, a wonderful piece which suits my mood particularly well tonight. Have you ever read Xenakis' "Formalized Music: Thought and Mathematics in Composition"?

  • Yes, part 6 of the Harmonologia series. Why?

  • This is a really excellent piece. It's almost impossible to find.

  • Yeah I know. There actually IS one copy available for sale on like... Amazon UK, but it's insanely expensive. Like 150 bucks after dollar conversion.

  • Masterpiece. Nothing to add

  • I've heard his work before but this is one is fascinating. Not soothing though! I love Bach, Mozart etc but this good as an "antidote" from time to time! Stimulates what is left of my brain cells!

  • @scitsalcoryp Mathematics

  • epic

  • This sounds like orchesrated agression..so totally in your face .

This might be a dumb question..but anyonw know what kind of recreational substances Mr Xenakis might' ve enjoyed ?

I know no-one has asked but we all want to know..

We all know there is no-one else that can come close to him as far as being a genius and creating his own, special little universes for us to all get lost in !

    You have a great selection...A+

    "I must say....." ;)

  • Piano Concerto No.4 by Xenakis-maybe it would get played more often if it was called that instead?

  • Personal favorite. Perfect.

  • Kékrōps was a mythical king of Athens. The name might mean 'face with a tail': it is said that, born from the earth itself, he had his top half shaped like a man and the bottom half in serpent or fish-tail form. He was the founder and the first king of Athens itself, though preceded in the region by the earth-born king Actaeus of Attica. Cecrops was a culture hero, teaching the Athenians marriage, reading and writing, and ceremonial burial.
