Can anyone confirm this noise? Happened after a 2 hour highway trip. Oil and Filter change the day before, and Lower Intake Manifold Gasket replaced about a week prior. It did at one point seize the engine, however a couple of days later it turned over with plugs removed, and fired up fine right after they were placed back in. Still making this same noise, as it did before it locked up. 240,000 KM on the car and engine.

  • i have the same exact engine in the same car, my car just now did that tonight and i need to tow it in the morning.... can you still drive like that or should i get it fixed immedtly?

  • I know this is old but I've heard of flex plates cracking on this car. Easy inspection by opening the covers by the starter

  • that sounds like a piston or a piston part that is big not the crankshaft something is hitting the cylnder wall back n forth like its looose as fuck.but problably a piston connector thats to long.

  • no it is actuall a hollow crank shat that breaks in the engine

  • Dude had the same prob. It might be the crankshAFT BARRING

  • LMFAO i was like wtf it looks to different then my engine then i was like oh... mine has an s/c on top

  • @lilbogle1991 i agree, it only does it under load, if it was something in the valve train it would constant and probably the MIL light on.

  • were you getting a MIL light on . should have a code for that cylinder not firing if it is the rocker stuck open or the push rod

  • what is the upper intake manifold made of

  • yep, sounds exactly like what happened after a mechanic broke one of the rocker arms in our engine (was stuck open and bent a little) while they were replacing the head gasket. the rod was just rattling around, not knowing what to do. They fixed that free of charge thank god because it WAS their fault in the first place
