Demonstration of me messing around with a cello bow on electric guitar, in a Jimmy Page / Sigur Ros type fashion (doesnt sound too much like Jimmy I admit).

Yup any bow should do. Playing guitar with the bow will destroy it over time so dont spend too much money on the bow

@kablamman2007 He's probably going through at least a delay pedal (the line6 dl4?), maybe other modulation pedals to get the eerie sound

@DeadWhiteButterflies i actually prefer holding the bow from the bottom if i pass it over the strings as it is the most natural position - just like violin players do. i do it on the acoustic guitar and get any kind of sounds out. you need to put quite some rosin on the bow, tense it properly and use the roughest strings possible as it won't work without friction.

@kablamman2007 as far as my experience goes: you need a bow and a rosin, without rosin it won't work. then, the second most important thing - the guitar strings - the rougher they are the better - it's nearly impossible to take any sound out of a nylon string for example - the bigger the friction the louder the sound. you can also use it in a different way; ie. check the track calling you by stereochemistry here on youtube :)
