Teen artist and photographer April Mitchell, 17, aims to create works of artistic beauty. But how is her definition of beauty shaped by her own appearance? April has a genetic skin condition known as vitiligo, which causes inconsistent skin color. Her condition greatly impacts her own outlook on judgments and prejudices based upon skin color, and raises questions about the traditional definitions of what, in our culture, is considered beautiful.

  • What a great story. When April says "I've always had two colors of skin.", that says it all. Not a disease, not a flaw, not a handicap, but a characteristic of a unique and inspiring young woman.

  • That was a fantastic video. You've inspired me.
