Rice is a white New Zealand rabbit who was originally up to be adopted, but has since been moved to the shelter's backroom because her behavior changed. Rice is currently in need of a foster home because the shelter environment and the small cage she is currently housed in is driving her crazy. Rabbits are genetically programmed to run and jump in open areas and not well-suited for shelter life for long periods of time.
Staff members at the shelter have labeled Rice as "aggressive" and have noted that she "will bite." Although these labels help people know that there's a chance that Rice may hurt them, the labels have kept people from interacting with her altogether, which has worsen her situation.
While volunteering at the shelter, my girlfriend, Lan, noticed that Rice looked really sad, so we decided to take a risk by playing with Rice, who probably hasn't had any interaction in weeks. Turns out that after a bit of initial warming up, Rice has returned to her original, sweet self.
