A project my friend Eric and I did for our history class. We eneded up getting a 104 and it is fairly historically accurate, minus the clothes and few hiccups along the way.

But here's a brief synopsis of the events:

Northwest Ordinance of 1787-Basically, what this did was lay the groundwork for how the territories west of the Appalachian mountains would be created and if they were to allow slavery.

The Missouri Compromise- this allowed slavery slavery south of the 36-30 parallel and made Missouri a slave state. It was later repealed

The Gag Rule- pretty much you weren't allowed to talk about slavery in Congress

Nat Turner's Rebellion- A slave named Nat Turner led an attack against his owner and killed nearly 50 people over the course of 3 days. He went into hiding but was eventually hanged

The Underground Railroad- a system of safe points and houses leading escaped slaves from the South into freedom in the North

The Compromise of 1850- Henry Clay originally proposed this as one bill, but it had to pass as series. It allowed California to be free, no slave trading in Washington DC and stricter fugitive slave laws

Stricter Fugitive Slave Laws- no longer made freed black in the north free, slave catachers could bring free blacks back to the South legally

Uncle Tom's Cabin- Harriet Beecher Stowe's mindbending look on slavery through the yes of an educated slave named Uncle Tom and his hardships. The south was outraged by this book

Kansas-Nebraska Act- repealed the Missouri Compromise and called for popular sovreignty in both states. Which allowed the citizens of the territories to vote for or against slavery. Caused huge uproar

Bleeding Kansas- All the commotion from the Kansas Nebraska cuased thousands to move into the states, both pro and anti-slavery. Fights and battles broke out over issue

The Sumner-Brooks Incident- Basically Sumner badmouthed Brooks' uncle and the South in the Congress Hall, so he beat him with a cane

Dred Scott Decision- a slave, Dred Scott, protested his freedom since he was in a freed state at the time. The Court ruled slaves as property and not people

The Lincoln-Douglas Debates- Abe Lincoln and Stephen Douglas were contesting for senator of Illinois.

John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry- John Brown lead a group of lsaves and anti-slavery advocates on an attack on an armory in harper's Ferry. All were killed or hanged for treason

The Eelction of 1860- Lincoln wins, the South thinks about secesion. The straw that broke the camel's back
